Man killed after threatening gas attendant
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth – One of two men who allegedly threatened a gas station attendant with a gun in Lacovia, St Elizabeth, is dead following confrontations with police and residents in the vicinity of the St Elizabeth/St James border on Wednesday.
The dead man’s companion in the Lacovia incident is in custody in St Elizabeth while the St James police were reportedly in search of a third suspect.
The police reported that at about 8:10 am on Wednesday, two men in a car pulled up at the Texaco gas station at Tombstone, Lacovia and ordered gasoline. But when the gas attendant, having supplied the gas, requested payment one of the men brandished a gun. The two then drove away.
The police reportedly responded quickly and gave chase. Gunshots were exchanged when the police party caught up with the two men 20 miles away in the vicinity of Elderslie, in northern St Elizabeth.
Police subsequently nabbed the man at the wheel of the getaway car, while his companion, whom the police believe was injured in the shooting, managed to escape.
Police later cornered the other gunman at a house in Niagara and in another alleged shoot-out, he again suffered gunshot wounds.
Police say that when they attempted to take the injured man to hospital they were intercepted by angry residents who chopped him on the shoulder. He was pronounced dead at hospital.
